Description: Spirit of America

Location: Pickwick Landing State Park

Give your teen the opportunity to build confidence on the water during a week of hands-on boating adventures at Pickwick Lake! This day camp is designed for youth ages 12–18 who want to learn safe boating practices while gaining experience operating a variety of watercraft.

Camp meets daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and lunch is provided.

During Camp, Students Will:

Complete and pass the Tennessee Boater Education Course on the first day of camp.
Participate in a Drowning Prevention and Water Safety class.
Learn to safely operate a variety of watercraft, including:
Paddleboards
Canoes
Kayaks
Sailboats
Small power boats
Large power boats
Practice steering, navigation, towing, and capsize recovery techniques.
Collect and analyze water quality while learning how to be environmentally responsible boaters.
Celebrate the week by taking a parent or guardian on the water aboard the vessel of their choice during a graduation cruise. (An instructor will be present on each vessel.)

Each Student Will Receive:

Upon successful completion of the camp and Tennessee Boater Education Course, students will receive:

Tennessee Boater Education License
Certificate of Completion
U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket
32 oz. reusable water bottle
Spirit of America challenge coin
Water quality testing kit

Before Camp:

Students must purchase a Type 600 boater ed permit on GoOutdoorsTennessee Website
Registration packets and additional information will be emailed after registration is complete.

Additional Information:

Camp instructors are trained staff and volunteers who have completed the Spirit of America curriculum. All staff and volunteers have successfully completed background checks.
Out-of-state students are welcome to attend. Tennessee's Boater Education Course is NASBLA-approved and accepted in most states.
