Description: Day After Thanksgiving Hike

Location: Standing Stone State Park

Instead of messing with crowds for Black Friday shopping, come hike at the beautiful Standing Stone State Park! Join Park Ranger Stephanie Howick for a moderate to slightly strenuous hike on a shorter portion of The Lake Trail. The hike will start Friday, November 29th, at 9:00 A.M. (CST). We will meet at the Park Office and begin with a short decent down the nearby Tea Room Spur to Standing Stone State Park’s spectacular 300-foot W.P.A. built, stone and concrete dam. We will continue on the trail and travel alongside Kelly Lake for .65 miles. Where the trail meets the Cabin Spur, we will continue on for about another half mile to the bridged portion of our trail and then return back and end with a .25 mile climb up the Cabin Spur to the Park Office. During the hike, we will discuss park history and some of the flora/fauna that we may see along the way.

The hike will be approximately 2 miles with slight elevation changes throughout. Time will be provided for those who may require breaks. Plan for this event to take around 2 hours. Bring water and wear suitable shoes for rocky terrain. Please plan ahead for the forecasted weather condition as well. This hike will be moderate in difficulty and suitable for most adults and children. For more information on the hike, please give us a call at (931) 823-6347.
