Homeschool Program | Designed for Ages 10–12
Put your engineering skills to the test in this exciting outdoor design challenge! In this hands-on homeschool program, students will discover how nature inspires engineering by exploring the incredible design of trees and the important role each part plays in providing strength, stability, and support.
Working in teams, participants will use the Engineering Design Process to plan, build, test, and improve their own eco-towers using natural materials found in the environment. Along the way, they'll compare their structures to real trees, identify how roots, trunks, branches, and leaves contribute to a tree's success, and learn how engineers use similar ideas to solve real-world challenges.
Through creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, students will experience the value of designing, testing, and refining their ideas while making connections between science, engineering, and the natural world.
This engaging outdoor lesson aligns with Tennessee 5th grade Engineering Design standards and encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation.
Designed for homeschool students.
Duration: 45–60 minutes.
Homeschoolers must be with an adult. Space has been limited to 15 homeschoolers. Please only register your homeschoolers only.
