We're sorry. This event is no longer available, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
Step back into the 18th century and learn a practical skill from the past! Join us for a hands-on sewing class where you’ll learn how to make your own colonial-style pocket. Worn around the waist and tucked beneath the skirt, pockets were a practical way to carry personal belongings before pockets were commonly sewn into clothing. Participants will learn the basics of constructing a traditional pocket and can choose to sew by hand or bring their own sewing machine. Fabric and all other necessary supplies will be provided.
The class will be taught by Donna Horowitz on Saturday, November 1st, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. The class is open to ages 12 and up with a small fee of $5 per person. Whether you’re interested in historic clothing, traditional skills, sewing, or simply trying something new, come create a useful piece of history to take home.
