This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
Join Ranger Trent at Shelter #2 for an interactive experience into the world of Honeybees. This will be a hands-on look at what it takes to be a beekeeper. We will look at the life cycle of honeybees, how bees make honey, and what we can do to help them thrive in the environment.
This program will last around an hour and thirty minutes. Ranger Trent will go over the use of protective gear, and tools used within beekeeping. After we will suit up, and he will show you what the management of honeybee hives consist of, as well as identifying the various aspects that make up the hive. Then each participant will get the opportunity to perform a guided hive inspection of their own. All proceeds from this program will go directly back into the management of the honeybee hives here at Norris Dam State Park.
Registration is required. (Space is limited to 5 participants due to supplies)
Closed toed shoes are required. Preferably some form of tennis shoe or boot.
All protective equipment will be provided.
If you have any known allergy to bee stings, please do not sign up for this program.
