Description: Zygmunt Plater presents: From the Little Tennessee to Washington D.C.
Location: Fort Loudoun State Historic Park
Join us at Fort Loudoun State Historic Area on Saturday, June 14th at 2 PM for a powerful presentation featuring Zygmunt Plater and Carolyn Ritchey.
Fifty years ago, a small fish - the endangered snail darter - became the symbol of a much larger fight: one that pitted families, farmers, and environmentalists against the powerful forces in a battle to save the Little Tennessee River Valley. At the heart of this story are real people who risked everything for what they loved - land, home, and heritage.
Zygmunt Plater, who argued this landmark case before the U.S. Supreme Court, and Carolyn Ritchey, whose family lived through the heartbreak of eminent domain and displacement, will share their deeply personal experiences from this historic struggle.
This is more than an environmental case - it's a story about the strength of a community, the cost of progress, and the voices that refused to be silenced.
Come honor their fight, their memories, and the lasting impact they've made.
This event is free and open to the public.
