This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Turkey Talk: Not Just for Thanksgiving!

Location: Roan Mountain State Park

Where to meet: Shelter 3

When to meet: 1:00 PM

Who should come: All ages welcome! Great for wildlife enthusiasts, bird lovers, and curious families.

Join Ranger Graham for an engaging, up-close look at one of Tennessee’s most iconic wildlife species: The Eastern Wild Turkey! Once nearly extinct in the early 1900s, this remarkable bird has made an incredible recovery thanks to conservation efforts across the state.

During this program, you’ll explore fascinating facts about turkey behavior, communication, and adaptations that help them thrive in the Appalachian forests. Learn how to tell a tom from a hen, decode gobbles and clucks, and discover what makes turkeys such a vital part of the mountain ecosystem.

This program will include visual demonstrations, feather and track identification, and lively discussion suitable for all ages. Participants are encouraged to bring curiosity, cameras, and questions!
