Description: The Great Outdoors Camp at South Cumberland State Park
Location: South Cumberland State Park
Join South Cumberland State Park for a fun filled week doing a wide variety of fun and challenging outdoor activities! This camp is designed for those who are 13-18 years old and can handle strenuous activities such as caving, rock climbing, long distance hiking, camping, etc. Campers will be required to bring their own lunches and water with them and are encouraged to also bring extra snacks since this will be a VERY active week.
Drop off time will be at 9:00 a.m. and pick up time will be at 4:00 p.m. every day at our park's Visitor's Center unless otherwise stated. Check out the activities we have planned for the week to see if this sounds like something your Teen wants to join us for!
Monday July 7th - Rock Climbing Day! We're starting camp off with a bang by going Rock Climbing! Campers will be required to wear closed toe shoes for this day, but are encouraged to bring sandals and swimming attire with them as we'll be climbing right next to Foster Falls and so will most likely go swimming if time allows after climbing.
Tuesday July 8th - Hiking Day! We'll be going on a minimum 9 mile hike (maybe longer depending on how spunky the group is). The terrain will be moderate - strenuous and so campers will be required to once again wear closed toe shoes (hiking boots are VERY ENCOURAGED!), but once again since there are waterfalls along the way, bring some clothes and sandals you can swim in!
Wednesday July 9th - Caving Day! We'll be going on a field trip to one of TN's newest State Parks, Head of the Crow State Park (formerly apart of South Cumberland)! We will be doing a hike through Buggy Top Cave. Make sure to wear clothes you don't mind getting possibly ripped and definitely dirty on this day. Long pants and closed toe shoes are required. Please bring a headlamp/flash light on this day as we do not have enough for everyone.
Thursday July 10th - Great Outdoor Campout! This day will start later than the others since we'll be camping out at Foster Falls. Drop off will be at 1:00 p.m. Dinner will be cooked at the campsite, but campers are still encouraged to bring any snacks they wish to have. Campers are also encouraged to bring their own camping gear, but some gear can be provided if it's needed. Rangers will be present and camping out as well. Other activities for the day are still TBD.
Friday July 11th - Graduation Day! We're there! It's time to graduate! But first, we'll be doing a service project in the morning. Graduation lunch will begin at 12:00 p.m. and the whole family is encouraged to attend! After we eat, we will graduate our campers and then send them home with what we hope are fond memories of a great week!
The cost for this camp is $110 per child and registration ends on Friday June 6th. If you need to cancel your child's participation, you must do so by close of business on June 9th in order to receive a refund.
