Description: The Craft of Curing: Bacon Making

Location: Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park

Join retired Tennessee State Park Ranger and seasoned outdoorsman Steve Smith for a hands on journey into the time honored art of bacon making. With over 34 years of experience as a park ranger, manager, and regional interpretive specialist, Steve brings a wealth of knowledge, storytelling, and down to earth expertise to this flavorful craft.

In this interactive class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of curing and preparing your own bacon at home. From selecting the right cut of pork to applying the perfect balance of salt, sugar, and spices, Steve will guide you step by step through the curing process. You’ll also gain insight into smoking techniques and traditional preservation methods.

Best of all, you'll leave with 2–3 pounds of your very own handcrafted bacon ready to finish at home and enjoy.

Whether you're a foodie, or just love bacon, this class is a fun, educational way to dive into a classic culinary skill.

This is a hands on class, come ready to get involved, get your hands a little messy, and bring home the bacon!
