Pre-registration is required. This program is recommended for ages 12+ due to the messy nature of the activity and the potential for staining skin and clothing. PLEASE NOTE: The turmeric mixture WILL STAIN skin and clothing. Gloves will be provided, but participants are encouraged to wear clothing and shoes they don’t mind getting dirty.
Did you know you can use a spice from your kitchen to create beautiful artwork? Join Seasonal Ranger Molly to learn about turmeric and its bright yellow pigment, curcumin, before creating your own sun print! We’ll paint a turmeric mixture onto cardstock, arrange plants and leaves on top, and use the power of sunlight to create unique designs. Along the way, we’ll explore how plants can provide natural pigments and dyes and learn why sunlight can change the colors we see. This program is open to all ages and is $2 per person. We will meet at the Upper Campground Pavilion. Please bring water and bug spray.
