Description: Stinging Fork Habitat Hike
Location: Cumberland Trail State Park
Join Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Cameron on a guided hike to Stinging Fork Falls. The trail to the falls is home to a diverse assortment of plants and wildlife that exist along the Cumberland Trail. We will explore and discuss the differences in wildlife habitat as we progress through our hike to the waterfall.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Registration cut-off is 6/20. If no one is registered, the hike will not take place. We will meet at Stinging Fork Falls State Natural Area, 5220 Shut in Gap Rd, Spring City, TN 37381. We will hike a total of ~2.0 miles total out and back from the trailhead. Please bring water, food, and appropriate footwear for hiking. Email cameron.d.johnson@tn.gov with any questions.
ESSENTIAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Very Steep Slope Hike
Program participants should be able to do the following, independently or with the assistance of a companion or adaptive equipment:
Understand and follow instructions to avoid and/or manage risks
Tolerate the outdoor elements for at least 2 hours
Perform self-care including maintaining nutrition and hydration, and managing existing medical conditions
Be able to identify and recognize environmental risks, including but not limited to, falling objects/rocks, loose rock and unstable surfaces, very steep and uneven terrain, cliff edges, crevasses, moving water (fast or slow) such as rivers or creeks, and potentially hazardous animals and insects
Move over uneven, rocky, narrow terrain 2 miles, including a rock staircase.
Support body weight while moving up and down a very steep 65% incline and decline over large rocks, tree roots, and potentially slippery soil for >1.5 miles
