Long before Harrison Bay State Park became a state park, the surrounding shores were home to Mississippian-era Native Americans who crafted clay vessels for trade, ceremony, and daily life. In this interactive experimental archaeology workshop, participants will decorate a terracotta pot with paint, safely shatter it to simulate an archaeological site discovery, and use specialized glue to reconstruct their piece like a true conservator. Through this hands-on craft, you will discover the patience required to restore history, gain insight into the region's rich cultural heritage, and take home your unique recreated artifact.
This program will cost $5 per participant. All materials will be provided during the activity. The program will take place at the interpretive center, located at the entrance of Harrison Bay. Spots will be limited, so pre-registration is encouraged.
