Lace up your hiking boots and hit the trail at Black Mountain for an adventure into the rugged rocky habitats of the Cumberland Trail. Along the way, we will search and learn about the many reptiles and amphibians that use these unique areas for shelter and survival. From snakes in rocky shelters to salamanders tucked in rocky crevice's, you’ll learn how these fascinating species have adapted to utilize these areas. The hike will conclude at the Black Mountain overlook that peers over the Tennessee valley.
The hike will cover approximately ~1.5 miles of hiking over uneven terrain with periodic stops to search for wildlife and make observations about the rocky habitat along the trail. Participants should wear closed-toe hiking shoes and bring water and snacks.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Registration cut-off is 9/12. If no one is registered, the hike will not take place. The Hike will begin at 10:00 AM CST. We will meet at the Black Mountain parking lot near the trailhead at 3004 Owl Roost Road, Crab Orchard, TN 37723.
