Description: Overnight Beginner Backpack 101 Trip!
Location: Paris Landing State Park
Backpacking 101 on Camp Hazlewood Trails!
If you have never tried backpacking, this trip is an easy, Family Friendly introduction. Children old enough to walk and not afraid to camp overnight in a tent can be registered as well and are welcome to participate under the supervision of their parent/guardian!
We will be hiking about 4 miles into camp, stopping many times along the way, following a moderate trail. A large, bulky pack will not be required, nor will a lot of food, since we will only be out one afternoon and night.
We will camp overnight in a back country site near Kentucky Lake and leave in the morning to hike about a mile back to our cars.
Park Rangers will provide some fun, camping related programs during this event as part of the program!
The park has the following loaner equipment:
2 backpacks, 2 sleeping pads, 1 two man tent.
The loaner equipment has a non-refundable fee of $10.00 each to reserve for the trip. Please notify the Park Ranger Christa Davidson (christa.davidson@tn.gov) if you would like to reserve these items - first come, first served.
After reservations are made, a list of items to bring will be sent to participants. Participation waivers will also be required and sent with other information.
You will need to bring a pack that can carry at a minimum these items: small tent, sleeping bag and pad, food for the event, water bottle, clothing for weather conditions, bug spray, personal toiletry items and wear sturdy boots.
In the event of inclement weather, participants will be contacted about plans and if the event is cancelled, will be refunded fees.
