PAST PROGRAM

This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Off Trail Adventure Series - Firefly Falls - March 22

Location: Rocky Fork State Park

Join Ranger Cory for an extreme off trail hike to Rocky Fork’s largest hidden waterfall, Firefly Falls, roughly 220 feet.

This four mile trek follows Rocky Fork Trail and Flint Creek Trail before leaving the path for a rugged one mile creek walk into a remote and rarely seen section of the park.

Along the way we will pass the abandoned Rocky Fork fish hatchery, a glimpse into the park’s history, before venturing into terrain that few visitors ever see.

You WILL get wet.

Participants should expect to walk directly through the creek during multiple crossings and during roughly one mile of creek travel. There will be two creek crossings each way, and hikers should be prepared to navigate slick rocks, uneven creek beds, and downed trees from Hurricane Helene. Water may be up to a foot deep depending on conditions.

What to Bring:

Closed toed hiking shoes, boots, or water shoes with good traction. Wear something you do not mind getting wet. Bringing an extra pair of socks is recommended.

Warm layers as conditions in the gorge can be cooler

Water and snacks

A sense of adventure

Important Notes:

In the event of inclement weather the program will be canceled for safety.

Reminder:

Off trail hiking is prohibited in all Tennessee State Parks (TCA 11 1 108). This ranger led program offers a rare opportunity to experience a remote part of Rocky Fork that is normally closed in order to protect the park’s natural resources.
