Description: Dark Skies and Perseid's Meteor Shower Hike
Location: Seven Islands State Birding Park
Pre-registration is required for this event
Experience the wonder of the night sky during a guided Dark Skies and Perseids Meteor Shower Walk at Seven Islands State Birding Park. Participants will explore the importance of protecting dark skies for wildlife, people, and future generations while learning how light pollution affects nocturnal animals and natural ecosystems.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate and the stars stay hidden, we’ll turn our attention to the park’s nocturnal wildlife—listening for owls, frogs, and other creatures of the night. This hike offers a peaceful and awe-inspiring way to connect with nature after dark.
This program is recommended for ages 8 and up. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 8:30 PM. Be prepared to walk approximately 2 miles over mostly paved trails. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. The program will include a combination of hiking, skywatching (weather permitting), and night wildlife observation.
The cost for this program is $12.00 per participant.
Please come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, a flashlight with a red light setting if possible, and a water bottle. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring an extra layer for cooler evening temperatures. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
