This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
"A National Historic Trail is a long-distance route that follows and commemorates a historic path of travel that changed the history and character of the U.S." -National Park Service
For National Trails Day, PRSHP Rangers will lead a guided walk along part of a historic road that is part of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail.
Visitors will get the chance to learn more about the Cherokee peoples and Indian Removal. Afterwards, visitors can stay and help Rangers restore part of the historic road by removing invasive species and fallen limbs from this significant and sacred place.
This program is rain or shine, so please wear appropriate footwear as the park can remain muddy during and after rainfall. Expect to spend at least 45 minutes outside. NOTE: Restrooms are located near the visitor center across the river from the Trail of Tears trailhead.
If you are staying to help with restoration, here are a few things you should bring:
Gloves
Hat
Insect repellant
Water
Rangers will provide plant removal equipment as well as a limited number of gloves and water bottles.
