Long before there was Harrison Bay or even a Cherokee Nation, Mississippian peoples called Southeast Tennessee home. The lasting legacies of their culture, which died out int he 16th century, remain on our landscape today, including their artwork found at mound sites (or pyramids) that they built throughout the southeast.
One of the artifacts commonly found at these mound sites are gorgets. Learn more about this culture that existed for over 500 years and make your own Mississippian-style gorget out of clay!
