Description: Marvelous Marsupials: Virginia Opossum
Location: Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park
Awesome Opossum. Marvelous Marsupial. Whatever you like to call them, these animals are an amazing species! They get a bad rap, but Virginia opossums play a vital role in our ecosystem. By the way, did you know this is North America's only marsupial? How amazing is that!
This program is for ages 5-12, but anyone is welcome. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Virginia opossums do not have the best reputation, but these little guys are more than just another creature in the forest. They are NA's only marsupial, are not able to contract rabies, and eat many pests we humans do not like such as the pesky tics. Join SIR Hannah B. to learn all that and more while making your very own to take home!
For this program we will meet in the museum and it will last about an hour. Upon introduction SIR Hannah B will explain and tell about the Virginia opossum, all the amazing things this species does, and scurry right into making our craft. We will be making an opossum hanging from a "limb" out of recycled materials provided by the park. As previously stated, you will be able to take this little guy home with you after!
To prepare for this program see the Essential Eligibility Criteria attached below.
In the event of inclement weather this event will be cancelled.
