Description: Love Never Dies
Location: Harrison Bay State Park
For those living before the 20th century, death was much more a part of life, and people of the past commemorated their lost loved ones in a variety of ways through art. This might be through portraiture, embroidery, or by preserving a piece of their loved one in jewelry or home decoration.
While hair art was not a new thing, it became very abundant during the Victorian period in America, particularly after the American Civil War. Many woven hair lockets, brooches, and rings from this period can still be found today.
Celebrate Valentine's Day by making your own hair locket for yourself or to give to someone special! Feel free to bring your own human or pet hair. Synthetic hair will be provided for those not wishing to use real hair for any reason!
Please park at the Star Walk Trail Parking lot, located across the street from the Interpretative Center. Program will be held at 5:00 Saturday, Feb, 14th inside the interpretative center. There will be sparkling cider available as refreshment.
