Description: Leather in History: Clothing, Trade, and Tooling
Location: Warriors Path State Park
Leather has been used by humans for thousands of years. From ancient civilizations to frontier America, it was prized for being strong, flexible, and long-lasting.
Under the guidance of a ranger, you’ll try your hand at basic leather tooling techniques. Using traditional tools, you will stamp and decorate your own leather keychain — taking home not only a handmade souvenir, but also a deeper appreciation of this timeless craft.
In this workshop, you won’t be tanning hides, but you’ll explore tooling — one of the final steps in leather making. This connects you directly to the same craft techniques used by artisans centuries ago.
By the end, you’ll have created your own tooled leather keychain, decorated in the tradition of past artisans. This is more than a souvenir — it’s a piece of history you made with your own hands.
