Description: Kite flying at the Sadie Ford Heritage Farm [2 PM]
Location: Cedars of Lebanon State Park
Let’s take to the skies—1930s style!
Step back in time to the days of the Great Depression, when children didn’t need screens or batteries for fun—just a breezy March afternoon and a dime kite. During the 1930s, simple paper kites could be purchased for just ten cents, offering affordable joy and imagination in challenging times. With little more than string, sticks, and determination, kids created high-flying adventures overhead.
Join us for this hands-on kite flying program inspired by the 1930s! Children will learn about the history of “dime kites,” discover how families found simple fun during the Depression era, and then launch their own kites into the spring sky. We’ll explore how wind works, share stories of childhood long ago, and celebrate the timeless thrill of watching a kite dance above the fields.
Bring your curiosity, your sense of adventure, and get ready to let your imagination soar—just like children did nearly 100 years ago!
We have a limited supply of 10 kites available to loan for this program. Registration is required only for those who would like to use one of the park’s kites. Families are welcome to attend together, and participants are encouraged to bring their own kites to fly. Please register only if you plan to use a park-provided kite.
