PAST PROGRAM

This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Julius Rosenwald: An Equal Opportunity Education Story

Location: Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park

Come to the Cemetery and learn about the gentleman who funded every one of the more than 5000 Rosenwald Schools.

Julius Rosenwald was a Jewish American that played a large part in advancing the education of Black children from 1912 to 1932, and a little after that. Working with Booker T. Washington, Rosenwald had over 5000 schools built in 15 Southern States.

Come out to Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park on MLK Day and visit the old site of a Rosenwald School, St. Matthew's Church, and current site for a cemetery. Ranger Decoda Muller will (briefly) regale you with a story of Mr. Rosenwald.
