Description: Invasive Clean Up Hike
Location: Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park
Among the green foliage, invasive species are quietly taking over native habitats. Help foil their plan and join SIR Hannah B. on the Bunkum Cave Loop Trail for an invasive clean up hike.
This program is intended for ages 12 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Invasive species are species not native, or not originating, from a certain place or geographical area. Invasive species might not seem like a big deal, but they can impact the ecosystem greatly. Some plants can release harmful chemicals into the soil, killing other plants around them. A good example of this is the mimosa tree. Those trees with the little pink puff balls? Those are invasive! On the trail we have many invasive species that need to be eradicated.
SIR Hannah B. will meet everyone at the trailhead, go over what the day will entail, how much time we have, and go over safety precautions upon receiving your equipment. (Don't get too excited! Just a spade and some gloves!).
To prepare for this program, wear comfortable and protective clothes. Choose a breathable material and make sure to wear sturdy and comfortable shoes. Also wear sun protection, bug spray, and bring plenty of water.
To prepare more for this program please see the Essential Eligibility Criteria attached below.
In the event of inclement weather this event will be cancelled.
