Description: Intro to Fishing on the French Broad River: The Smallmouth Spawn!

Location: Seven Islands State Birding Park

***Pre-registration is required for this event***

Come learn about fishing for the state fish of Tennessee, the Smallmouth Bass! The French Broad River is one of the best places to fish for this hard fighting game fish and the area around Seven Islands is known to have some big ones.

Participants will first learn how to ID a Smallmouth Bass, then we will learn common fishing knots, how to properly cast, and other ins-and-out of how to use a fishing rod and reel.

Once participants know how to use a rod and reel, we will go over what lures or bait to use, how to properly sight the water, and what you do when you catch your first fish.

Most importantly, we'll learn how to properly handle fish and how to respect the waters they inhabit while also engaging in an exciting form of recreation.

The length of time spent doing an intro to fishing basics while depend entirely on participant's skill level, but all skill levels are accepted!

Finally, we’ll all go take a walk to the river to make some casts and maybe catch some Smallmouth Bass!
