Soil Stories: How Tennessee's Land Was Shaped
Homeschool Program | Designed for Ages 9–12
Become a geologist for the day as we uncover the story beneath our feet! In this hands-on homeschool program, students will investigate how weathering, erosion, and deposition have shaped Tennessee's diverse landscapes over time.
Working in pairs, participants will collect soil samples from different locations, test and compare their findings, identify soil types using scientific flow charts, and record observations like real scientists. Through evidence-based investigation, students will discover how rocks and soils reveal clues about Tennessee's geologic history and predict how landscapes may continue to change in the future.
This engaging outdoor lesson aligns with Tennessee 4th grade Earth and Space Science standards while encouraging observation, critical thinking, teamwork, and scientific inquiry.
Designed for homeschool students.
Duration: 45–60 minutes
Homeschoolers must be with an adult. Space has been limited to 15 homeschoolers. Please only register your homeschoolers only.
