PAST PROGRAM

This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Homeschool Thursday: Make Your Own Rocks

Location: Bledsoe Creek State Park

Learn about the different types of rocks and how they are formed using Play-Doh! While this program covers standards ranging from 4th-8th grade, younger students are welcome to join. Parents are responsible for determining their child's ability to complete the activity. To learn more about the program's difficulty, check out the Essential Eligibility Criteria. Please note that this program is located on the second floor of our Visitor Center which is currently only accessible via stairs. If the stairs limit your ability to participate, please reach out to Ranger Abby via abigail.wiseman@tn.gov.

State standards covered during this program include:

  • 4.ESS2.1: Collect and analyze data from observations to provide evidence that rocks, soils, and sediments are broken into smaller pieces through mechanical weathering (e.g., frost wedging, abrasion, tree root wedging) and are transported by water, ice, wind, gravity, and vegetation.
  • 8.ESS2.3: Describe the relationship between the processes and forces that create igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
