Description: Homeschool Thursday: Sorting Species

Location: Bledsoe Creek State Park

In this Homeschool Thursday program, we will be discussing how we categorize plants and animals into different groups based on their physical characteristics. Using those same principles, we will categorize types of candy! Once we're done, each kiddo will be able to bring some candy home.

Please email Ranger Abby if your child has any allergies so she can adjust the types of candy we use.

All ages are welcome to participate, but ideal ages are between 2nd - 4th grade.

State standards covered include:

Obtain and communicate information to classify animals (vertebrates: mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, invertebrates: insects) based on their physical characteristics. 2.LS1.2
Analyze the internal and external structures that aquatic and land organisms have to support survival, growth, behavior, & reproduction. 3.LS1.2
Develop and use models to illustrate the flow of matter through a food web/food chain beginning with sunlight and including producers, consumers, and decomposers. 4.LS2.1
