Description: Habitat Management Hike
Location: Seven Islands State Birding Park
Join Ranger Destinee for a guided hike to discover how habitat management helps wildlife thrive at Seven Islands State Birding Park. Learn about the techniques park staff use to create and maintain habitat for grassland birds, with a special focus on the Northern Bobwhite, a species of greatest conservation need in Tennessee. Along the way, we'll explore how prescribed fire, invasive species management, native grass restoration, and other land management practices benefit bobwhites and countless other native plants and animals. Whether you're interested in birds, conservation, or land stewardship, this hike offers a behind-the-scenes look at the work that keeps Seven Islands a haven for wildlife.
This program is recommended for adults and children ages 10 and up. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 9:00 am. Be prepared to walk approximately 2-3 miles over both paved and unpaved surfaces. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. This guided hike will include several stops to discuss habitat management practices in the field and will last approximately 2 hours.
The cost of this program is $5 per participant.
Please come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle. Dress for the weather, as portions of the hike have limited shade. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
