This will be a four-stop birding tour at Rock Island State Park. You are welcome to join us for just one stop or follow along for the whole tour.
Here are the four locations and the respective time we will spend at each one:
Stop 1:
7:30am We will meet at the beach area pavilion at 7:30am where we will calibrate and function test our binoculars (and offer a tutorial on how to effectively use binoculars for birding). We will then do an appx. 10-minute bird survey and head to the next area.
Stop 2:
8:30am the next stop will be at King's Landing Boat Ramp for appx 15-20 minutes. There will be minimal to no hiking involved at this location.
Stop 3:
9:00am Collins River Prairie will involve an out-and-back hike from the parking area that will be roughly 1/2-mile round trip
Stop 4:
10:30am Twin Falls Parking area will involve a short hike either on the downstream trail or upstream trail. This area has rugged terrain with stairs and/or steep inclines and will require sturdy shoes. We will bird here for roughly 30 minutes and end at roughly 11am.
All results will be recorded separately for each separate location. The ranger will be documenting the birds seen in ebird, so be sure to provide the ranger with your ebird ID if you would like the list to be shared with you.
