One of Big Ridge's State Park Rangers will be leading a full moon kayak float on Big Ridge Lake. The goal will be to paddle the shorelines of Big Ridge Lake while making our way out to the dam and back. During the trip we will discuss the flora, fauna, folklore, and folklife that exist under the night skies of Big Ridge and Southern Appalachia as a whole. We will meet at the boat dock at 8:30pm for an introduction and safety talk before we start. Kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets will be provided by Big Ridge State Park. You are welcome to bring your own lifejacket, but it must get Park Ranger approval before the program starts. Feel free to bring snacks, water, headlamps, or any other supplies that you might need. Coolers and fishing poles will not be allowed on this trip. An additional layer of warm clothing might be a good idea, as temps can sometimes be colder on the water. The park staff will have dry bags that you may store additional clothing in if needed. Program is subject to cancellation if the forecast calls for inclement weather or heavy overcast.
