This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
The forests and riverbanks of the Red River Valley have always provided the resources needed for survival, transportation, craftsmanship, and community. By learning to identify invasive species and transforming harvested grapevines into handmade wreaths, visitors discover how generations of craftspeople have relied on available materials found in the landscape while practicing stewardship of the natural world.
Visitors will take part in the full process involved with wreath making. From learning how to identify invasive species common in this area to harvesting them yourselves, stripping the vines and branches, and then shaping and twisting them into your own wreath, you then will get to take home the wreath.
This program is an hour long, with about half of it taking place outside. Guests should come prepared with water, sunblock, and bug spray. Port Royal staff will provide protective gloves and pruners needed to collect the natural materials.
This program is free of charge. Recommended for ages 12+.
