Description: Fish the Blackburn Fork River!

Location: Cummins Falls State Park

Recommended Ages: 5+

Join Cummins Falls State Park staff for an exciting outdoor adventure along the scenic Blackburn Fork River! This guided hike and fishing experience is designed for beginners and seasoned anglers alike, and is perfect for families, nature enthusiasts, or anyone wanting to cast a line in one of Tennessee’s most beautiful natural settings.

What’s the Program About?

Participants will enjoy a slightly strenuous, ranger-led hike down to the river, where you'll have the opportunity to fish for smallmouth bass and rock bass. Along the way, you'll learn about the park’s unique aquatic ecosystem and get tips for successful fishing.

So What? (Why It Matters)

Fishing is more than just fun—it’s a chance to connect with nature, learn conservation practices, and gain outdoor skills. This program supports Tennessee’s efforts in environmental education and responsible recreation.

What to Expect:

  • A 1.5–2 hour program including a guided hike and bank fishing session
  • Use of park-provided push-button rods and tackle (or bring your own gear)
  • Instruction on basic fishing techniques and fish species identification
  • Opportunities to ask questions and engage with knowledgeable park staff

How to Prepare:

  • Wear sturdy hiking shoes the trail is rocky and can be slippery
  • Bring a small backpack with water, snacks, and sun protection
  • A valid Tennessee fishing license is required for participants ages 13+
  • Purchase your license here
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
