PAST PROGRAM

This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Fall Foliage Float

Location: Big Ridge State Park

Park Ranger Ethan will be leading this program on both land and water! We will be doing a short hike on the Fisherman’s Trail out to Norris Lake where our kayaks will be staged. We will then spend an hour and a half kayaking along the shorelines of the park. Over the course of the program, we will discuss the park's rich history, folklore, folklife, as well as any flora or fauna that we discover along the way.

Please feel free to bring water, snacks, or any other supplies that you might need. Please consider the weather conditions when planning for this trip. The park staff will have dry bags for additional clothing layers if necessary.

Note: Please take the following into consideration when deciding if this trip is right for you.

The water levels on Norris Lake will be lower during this time of the year and will result in having to walk further down the bank to access the kayaks. The lakeside terrain we will be traversing is likely to be moderately steep and slippery. It is recommended that you wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet or muddy.

Large coolers will not be allowed on this trip. You are welcome to bring your own life jacket, but it must have park ranger approval before the trip begins.

Please contact ranger Ethan or the park office at least one week before the trip if you wish to reserve a tandem kayak. Children 10 years and younger will need to paddle with an adult.

Meeting Location: Grist Mill Parking Area

Hiking Distance: 1 mile

Time on water: 1.5 hours

Please arrive 10-15 minutes before posted trip time.
