This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
Have you ever drove past that old looking three story brick building above Great Falls and wondered what it is? Some people think it is an old asylum, some think it’s an old house, but it is in fact the Falls City Cotton Mill that operated in Rock Island from 1892-1902!
Join us for a rare opportunity to visit the inside of this Nationally Registered Historic Landmark and one of the oldest structures on the park. Visit with a Park Ranger who will be discussing the history of the mill and its significance to Rock Island. The cotton mill will be open for two hours, from 10 AM until 12 PM. Please be aware, there is no heating or cooling inside the building, so please dress accordingly if you would like to stop by for a visit. Unfortunately, the cotton mill is not ADA accessible, and we will not be allowing pets inside at this time.
Parking is located next to the mill, directly across the street from the historic Spring Castle. We recommend that you wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. In the event of inclement weather, this event may be cancelled. Registration is not required, but we are accepting donations. If you have any questions, please call Park Ranger Josh Welch (931)-913-6497.
