PAST PROGRAM

This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Edible and Medicinal Hike and Acorn Flour Demonstration

Location: Seven Islands State Birding Park

Pre-registration is required for this event

This program will introduce participants to edible and medicinal plants found along Kelly Lane, with a special focus on the many uses of acorns. By exploring these natural resources, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for how people historically connected with the land and how those traditions can still be used today. After the walk, participants will enjoy a tasty treat and take part in a hands-on demonstration of making acorn flour.

This program is recommended for adults and families with children ages 8 and up. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 1:00 PM. Be prepared to walk 1.5 miles over both paved and unpaved surfaces. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. Following the hike, we will gather at the Hickory Ridge Outdoor Classroom for the acorn flour demonstration and snack. The program will last approximately 2.5 hours.

The cost of this program is $12 per participant. Children under 5 are free with a paying adult.

Please come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
