PAST PROGRAM

This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Earth Hour Charcloth Making

Location: Big Ridge State Park

Join park staff to learn how to make your own charcloth! Charcloth has been used in fire-starting kits for centuries and is still one of the best supplements to use to start your fire today, especially when using flint and steel. We'll begin the program by starting the fire using flint and steel, and as we work through the process, we'll discuss the history and how pyrolysis works to create charcloth. Additionally, everyone will get a small supply of charcloth to take home with them!

This event takes place during a globally recognized event known as Earth Hour, which encourages everyone to turn their lights off for 1 hour from 8:30PM-9:30PM on the last Saturday in March annually. We hope this event will give you something to do to pass the time for that 1 hour. Remember to turn off your lights before you leave, and we look forward to seeing you!
