Description: Decorate your own Kite [1 PM]
Location: Cedars of Lebanon State Park
Step into a breezier time when imagination was the best entertainment money could buy. In the 1930s, children often purchased simple “dime kites” and made them their own—adding color, personality, and creativity before sending them skyward.
Join us this March for a hands-on, history-inspired kite decorating program! Young participants will learn how children during the Great Depression found joy in simple pleasures and how a ten-cent kite could spark hours of outdoor adventure. After a short look at 1930s childhood and the story of the famous dime kite, each child will decorate their very own kite to keep.
Using bright colors and creative designs, children will transform a simple kite into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece—just like kids did nearly a century ago. Then, weather permitting, we’ll head outside to watch their creations take flight in the spring wind.
A little history, a lot of creativity, and a sky full of color—because sometimes the simplest things create the biggest memories.
Supplies are limited. Registration includes one kite and supplies for decorating.
