Description: Crockett Cadets: Advance Junior Ranger Camp (Grades 9-12)

Location: David Crockett State Park

Recruiting now for Crockett Cadets! This advanced Junior Ranger Camp is a CO-ED*, three-part program designed specifically for kids in high school who are interested in getting outdoors and learning new skills for recreation and survival. No experience required! Cadets will learn the fundamentals of hiking, camping, and wilderness survival, beginning with orientation and followed by two overnight camping experiences. We will be putting together a basic survival kit at orientation and going over what to expect for the overnight portions. Registration will remain open through 3/21, then registrants will receive a list of gear (not included in the survival kit) that each cadet will need to bring. A shopping list with suggested items will be provided for any wishing to invest in new gear, but cadets may bring whatever gear they already have, are able to acquire, or they may borrow from someone.

*Girls AND boys are encouraged to participate! Rangers Joe and Rachel will be leading the entire series, including the overnight portions, and will be available to address and tend to any respective gender-specific needs. Each cadet will provide their own gear/sleeping space but may share if coming to camp with another cadet. Only same-sex cadets will be permitted to share an enclosed sleeping space if shelter gear is being shared, with the exception of family members with guardian approval.

Day 0: 4/11 5pm - 8pm -- Orientation Day: Survival kit building, safety and first-aid, 10 essentials for hiking, expectations for upcoming campouts

Day 1: 4/18 2pm - 4/19 11am -- OVERNIGHT: Camping 101. Basic camping skills for drive-up camping (Campsite selection, gear needed, tent and hammock set-up, fire-starting, food prep, etc.)

Day 2: 4/25/13 2pm - 4/26 11am -- OVERNIGHT: Primitive skills and wilderness survival (Shelter building, primitive fire starting, navigation, edible and medicinal plants, etc.)

Each day of the program is a pre-requisite for the next, so cadets must attend all three portions to participate.
