Description: Clay Mushroom Tree Cookies & Mushroom Hike
Location: Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park
Join us in the Park Museum to create your own clay mushroom tree cookie and mushroom hike!
This program is recommended for ages 8 and up. Kids 7 years and younger may participate with adult supervision and assistance.
Cordell Hull Birthplace is home to many unique species that call the park home including mushrooms, moss, and other whimsical organisms. Using inspiration from photos and nature guides, you will mold your own mushroom and other items if time allows out of clay to create a unique tree cookie. We will then explore Bunkum Cave Loop trail to identify some of the mushrooms we create.
The duration of this program is set for 2.5 hours but can vary on crafting skills and hiking speed. During this program you will use clay to create a mushroom(s) and other items to place on your tree cookie. Once the clay has baked and hardened, we will paint our creations. While our paint dries we will take a 1.25 mile hike to explore mushroom species on the trail (optional). After our hike we will attach our dried clay pieces to tree cookies with moss and other natural items. All materials will be provided by the park.
To make the most of this program, please wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, bring water, and read the attached Essential Eligibility Criteria below.
In the event of inclement weather this program will be cancelled.
