This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
Do you like to explore areas that you have a rare opportunity to see? Do you like to learn about caves and other natural features? Join the Ranger for a hike to the entrance of Bone Cave! We will be meeting at the Visitor Center Parking area at 10:00am and then following (carpooling/driving behind) the ranger to the access point. The hike is moderately strenuous, with steep inclines and large rocks to navigate in certain sections. Bone Cave State Natural Area is undeveloped and has no restrooms, so wear close toed shoes, dress appropriately for the weather, and be sure to bring snacks and water and use the restroom before we leave the office.
We will be hiking down to the entrance of Big Bone Cave and then hiking back out. This cave is gated and we do not have access to the inside. We will still be able to look down into the cave and walk into the mouth of the cave and feel the cold air blowing out. This is still a phenomenal experience, so if you like caves and would like to see and hear about this little historical gem, please join our hike!
Note: this hike will be canceled if there is severe weather forecasted.
