Description: Bledsoe's Birds - Box Painting
Location: Bledsoe Creek State Park
Join Ranger Jack in painting and learning about birds native to Tennessee and the nesting boxes built for them! A core goal of Tennessee State Parks is to preserve and encourage animal habitation for species natural to the region. Some of these birds, like Eastern Bluebirds and Barred Owls, are two species already present at Bledsoe Creek, where several habitat boxes have been built to be placed throughout the park. In this program, you can play a part in painting/staining some these boxes in colors attractive for the birds and learning about these two species in the comfort of the Visitor Center Conference Room. Your participation in this program will contribute to Bledsoe Creek's conservation and habitation measures as a state park, a resource management project involving the park's birding habitation, encourage the birds themselves to occupy these boxes, and make them more identifiable wherever they are placed for all to observe and enjoy!
Paint, brushes, and gloves will be supplied for this program. Since the program involves working with paint, it is recommended to wear clothing one does not mind getting stained with such.
Due to the use of paint indoors and specifically in a shared, newly renovated office space, it is very important all who participate in this program are considerate of their activity and cleanliness.
Please note that this program is located on the second floor of our Visitor Center which is currently only accessible via stairs. If the stairs limited your ability to participate, please reach out to Ranger Jack at Jackson.Arrington@tn.gov.
