This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
This seasonal workshop is designed to give park visitors a hands-on opportunity to create homemade suet blocks for birds. During the colder months, natural food sources become scarce, and suet provides birds with a high-energy supplement that helps them stay warm and active. This program offers a simple way for participants to support local wildlife while enjoying a fun and creative outdoor activity.
The workshop begins with a brief introduction to the concept of suet feeding and why it’s especially helpful during winter. Participants will then be guided through the process of making their own suet cakes using basic ingredients like lard or shortening, bird seed, and natural additions such as oats or dried fruit. All materials will be provided, including molds, and wrapping supplies for easy transport. Each participant will be able to take home their own suet cake.
While crafting, participants are encouraged to share their own bird sightings, ask questions, and learn a few tips about placing feeders and observing winter birds. Whether you're an experienced birder or just looking for a way to connect with nature, this program offers a relaxed and welcoming environment to learn something new and give back to local wildlife.
