Experience bird research up close during our Bird Banding Program! Watch as trained biologists and volunteers carefully capture, band, and release birds as part of ongoing efforts to monitor bird populations and migration. Learn why bird banding is important, what data is collected, and how this research helps protect birds and their habitats. This is a unique opportunity to see birds in the hand and gain a deeper appreciation for our feathered friends.
This program is recommended for ages 8 and up. Please meet your guide at the Bluebird Barn at 8:00 AM. Be prepared to walk up to 1 mile on mostly flat, unpaved trails. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. The program will last approximately 2.5 hours and includes both walking and stationary observation time at the banding station. Please remain with your guide, as he/she will be available to answer any questions that you may have and ensure that bird safety is maintained.
Please come prepared with good walking shoes, sun protection, and a water bottle. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals. Photography is limited at the banding station. Please check with your guide to see what is allowed.
