Description: Bioblitz at Window Cliffs!
Location: Burgess Falls State Park
Join us on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at Window Cliffs State Natural Area from 9 am to 12 pm for our first bioblitz!
Botanist Eli Harris will be joining us to go over iNaturalist, a leading citizen scientist platform for people to identify, observe, and record species found. Holly Taylor will be present to assist with learning about birding and birding apps. We will walk through our grassland area and new fireline trail to observe plants, animals, fungi, insects, and more! This event is perfect for those who enjoy learning about nature and contributing data to our park. Data is logged via cellular devices, so please come prepared with a full battery. If you have a portable power bank, please bring it. The park will have very few portable chargers to lend out.
The areas we will cover are grassland areas with plants 3-5 feet high that are in full sun. The fireline trail will mostly be in the shade under an oak-hickory forest. Both areas may contain stinging insects, snakes, ticks, poison ivy, and thorny plants. It is highly recommended to wear closed-toed boots, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and a wide-brimmed hat. Permethrin, bug spray, and sunscreen are encouraged. Please bring a refillable water bottle and snacks/lunch. There will be water to refill your water bottles.
Please have iNaturalist downloaded prior to arriving at the event. Other citizen scientist apps you may consider downloading prior to the event are Seek, Merlin, and eBird.
