Description: Beginner's Crochet: Heart Plushie
Location: Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park
Join us at the Park Museum to crochet a heart plushie and learn about the history of textiles and how fabric making was important to the Hull's.
This program is intended for ages 12+, but everyone is welcome to attend.
Cordell Hull, in his memoirs, wrote that he wore "homespun," meaning that he wore fabrics that his family made. The concept of homespun began during the Revolutionary War, as an initiative for the country to be self-sufficient. This practice continued into the early 20th century in rural areas and was a part of everyday life for families like Cordell Hull's. During this program, we will be doing our own fabric-making through crochet and expand more on the types of fabric-making and how they played a role in Cordell Hull's early life.
This program will last for an hour. We will begin with a discussion on Cordell Hull and textiles, and then we will make our craft. All materials will be provided by the park. To better prepare for this program, please read the Essential Eligibility Criteria.
In the event of inclement weather, this program will be cancelled.
