Frozen Head State Park

Description: Beginner Backpacking Trip

Location: Frozen Head State Park

Due to weather, the trip scheduled for May 3rd and 4th was rescheduled to May 24th and 25th!

Join us for a beginner backpacking trip at Frozen Head State Park! Learn the essentials of backpacking and experience Frozen Head’s backcountry beauty at night. We will start at the Park Visitor Center on Saturday May 24th at 10:30am with a gear layout to make sure everyone has what they need for a comfortable hike. If you have never been backpacking before, don’t worry – we will go through the essentials for a great backpacking trip. If you need any gear (backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, etc.) please email blake.melancon@tn.gov for a list of options.

The group will then start hiking! We will climb 3.8 miles to Tub Springs Campsite and set up camp for the night. On Sunday May 25^th the group will hike down 2.9 miles down the mountain and participants will leave with a great experience in the outdoors. Supper and snacks will be provided on Saturday. Breakfast and snacks will be provided on Sunday. You are welcome to bring your own food as well.

This event is open to all ages, however, anyone under 18 needs a parent present. Also, keep in mind that the hike is moderately challenging, but we will be going slow and will stop for breaks along the way.

Cost is $75/person. Maximum 10 participants.

Weather and Cancellation Policy:

If there is a high chance of heavy rain/storms for a large amount of the trip’s planned time, the trip will be cancelled, and full refunds will be issued. If you cancel at least one week before the trip’s start date (by May 22nd), you will receive a full refund. Any cancellations after May 22nd will receive no refund.
