We're sorry. This event is no longer available, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Basket weaving- Baggy Pouch

Location: Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park

Barbara Vaughn will teach you how to weave your own Baggy Pouch basket. This basket will be a 13" tall hanging basket and will be woven on a slotted wooden base with a precut hole in the center of the base to dispense plastic bag. It is a great way to organize and store those empty plastic bags. Make sure to bring a lunch.

Barbara is a recently retired Overton County School teacher who has been weaving baskets for 40 plus years. She learned most of my weaving skills from Katherine Smith who used to live in Monroe. Often when she designed a new basket, Barbara would be her new pattern tester. This forced her to learn to read patterns and how to write her own patterns,

This class is supported by a grant from Tennessee Arts Commission.
