Description: Backpacking - Outdoor Experiences Series
Location: Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at backcountry camping? This program is for anyone interested in backpacking and looking for a guided, beginner-level trip.
We'll have an introductory program at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park on Thursday, April 23rd, to learn about the gear you need, the best ways to pack your bag, and how to plan a trip. More details upon registration.
Then, join us for a backpacking trip at Savage Gulf State Park! This backpacking trip will be Friday, May 1st – Saturday, May 2nd.
During the trip, we’ll hike approximately 3 miles to camp, set up for the night, and enjoy dinner. There will be an optional 3-mile hike to see Greeter Falls on Friday evening after we set up camp. Then, we’ll hike approximately 4 miles the next morning, stopping by the Stone Door Overlook on the way out. Free, overnight parking is available. Carpooling may be available upon request. Dinner and breakfast are included in the price of the program.
