Description: Art in the Park: Drawing Birds with Ranger Clare

Location: Seven Islands State Birding Park

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at drawing birds, but didn’t know where to start? This beginner-friendly art program led by Ranger Clare will guide you through the basics of observing and sketching birds in nature. You don’t need to be an artist—just curious and ready to have fun!

We’ll begin at the Bluebird Barn, then take a short walk to the shaded outdoor classroom on Hickory Ridge, where we’ll practice drawing birds from life and from reference images. Ranger Clare will share simple techniques for breaking down bird shapes, adding details like feathers and beaks, and capturing some of their most common postures.

Please bring a sketchbook or notebook with blank pages, a pencil, and colored pencils if you have them. Also bring water, wear sun protection, and dress for the weather. The walk is short, but on unpaved trails with a few steps.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited. This program is recommended for ages 12 and up.

If you have any questions, contact Ranger Clare at clare.dattilo@tn.gov.
